Der 1903 in München geborene Geschäftsmann, Bankier und Großspekulant Alois Miedl nahm als "Ariseur" des Amsterdamer Kunsthandels Jacques Goudstikker eine zentrale Rolle im NS-Kunstmarkt ein. Dennoch ist seine Biografie bisher nur fragmentarisch rekonstruiert worden. Wirtschafts-, rechts-, zeit- und kunsthistorische Aspekte integrierend, zeichnet die Autorin nicht nur erstmals detailliert das Miedl'sche Kunsthandelssystem in den Niederlanden von 1940 bis 1945 nach, sondern analysiert auch dessen globale Wirtschafts- und Finanzgeschäfte der Zwischen- und Nachkriegszeit. Wie sich zeigt, übertrug Miedl als Wegbereiter und Katalysator eines genuin kapitalistischen Kunstmarktes seine teils fragwürdige bis illegale "Kunst" des Geschäftemachens auf Geschäfte mit der Kunst.
