Wien nimmt im Großstadtdiskurs der 1920er Jahre, aus der Sicht zahlreicher ProtagonistInnen wie aus jener der Kultur- und Literaturwissenschaft, eine ambivalente Position ein: kein Ort der entfesselten technischen Moderne, keine Gleisdreieck-Realität und doch auch »Intensivstadt« (R. Müller), Gegenwarts-Stadt im »Schwebezustand der Krise« ohne Zukunft (H. Bettauer), sowie, mit Blick auf Errungenschaften des ›Roten Wien‹, aber auch auf reiche Erfahrungen »im Untergehen« (A. Polgar), ein mit Potenzialen geradezu gesegneter Schauplatz künstlerischer wie politischer Utopien und real- und alltagsgeschichtlicher Praxis. Diese Vielfalt und ihre Ambivalenz, vor allem aber ihre unterschätzt gebliebenen Potenziale, loten die AutorInnen mit zum Teil kaum noch einbezogenen Texten und Werk-Projekten aus und versuchen somit Zuschreibungen zu überprüfen und neue Akzente zu setzen. From the point of view of many scholars from various disciplines such as cultural or literary studies, Vienna takes an ambivalent position in the large city discourse of the 1920s. The authors analyse both the diversity and ambivalence of Vienna. Additionally, they examine its under estimated potentials using writings and work-projects, which have not been considered yet in parts, and try to prove attributions and set new accents.
