About this book

This volume offers a curated selection of five previously-published texts that, in different ways, address the topic of learning. The first three selections, “The Determinants of Human Action: The SOAR Model,” “On Learning,” and “On Teaching,” were originally published in Observers and Their Worlds (J.C. Sáez Editor, 2025). The last two, “Listening” and “Modes of Speaking and the Path of Inquiry,” appeared in Actos de Lenguaje, Vol. I (J.C. Sáez, Editor, 2007). On Learning was originally published to provide supplementary material to students in training programs aimed at teachers and educational administrators, but they contain contributions to the field of teaching and learning that are relevant to a broader audience. For this reason the publisher has chosen to make it more widely available, in English. While this book may be read easily without any previous understanding of Rafael Echeverría’s proposals, readers may be drawn to explore his wider body of work, much of which has been published in Spanish by our publishing house and is now becoming available in English. The titles can be found on the inside flap of this edition.
