The book “Plant Development” is written to cater to the needs of post-graduate students of Botany. It is written according to the UGC curriculum. It has been dived into 21 chapters. At the out set seed germination and seedling growth are given. The next chapter is on cell, cytoskeleton and ergastic substances, followed by cell wall. The authors give the detail of meristem in the next chapters. Chapters V and VI deal with simple and complex tissue respectively. Detailed structure and development of vascular cambium, laticifers, epidermis and periderm are given in the subsequent chapters. Anatomy of root and stem are given in chapters XI and XII followed by anomalous secondary growth. Structure and development of leaf, flower, fruit and seed with molecular details are given next. Anatomy in relation to taxonomy is given in the subsequent chapters. The UGC curriculum in this paper includes aspects of Dormancy. Senescence, Abscission and Programmed cell Death in Plants. These are given at the end. Thus the book gives both conventional and modern aspects of Plant Development.
