In retaliation, Missourians crossed the border and chopped down three hollow trees containing precious honeybees, stealing the honey. This minor act of vandalism ignited a massive political crisis. Both governors mobilized their local militias, armed with pitchforks, outdated muskets, and boundless outrage.
