Alan Alexander Milne (1882–1956) was an English author, playwright, and poet best known for creating the beloved children's stories of Winnie-the-Pooh. Milne wrote for Granta magazine before becoming a contributor and later assistant editor at Punch. Though he initially gained recognition as a playwright and humorist, his fame was cemented with the publication of Winnie-the-Pooh (1926) and The House at Pooh Corner (1928), inspired by his son Christopher Robin and his toys. Milne also served in World War I and the Home Guard during World War II. Despite his wide-ranging literary career, his legacy remains most strongly tied to the timeless tales of Pooh and his friends in the Hundred Acre Wood.
