PROBE ME: How a Physician Scientist Experiences God

"I was born and raised in a Catholic home and educated in a Catholic school; I received rigorous training as a physician and scientist; I used advances in scientific knowledge and available technology to care for my patients and advance my field of research. Even when God's plans for me changed and I ended up in a Texas prison, I never stopped believing in Him or praying to Him at night. Deep within our actions, there is always an ontological anxiety, a loneliness that wounds the heart of our existence. There are moments in life when no one can accompany us, and so we must face them alone, with radical responsibility. Only from the limits are we able to feel our limits. Experiencing our limits makes us experience the infinite, remaining completely open to the mystery that we feel within ourselves". Ana María González Angulo is a physician and surgeon from the Universidad del Cauca in Popayán, Colombia. She specialised in internal medicine at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami and in medical oncology at the Ochsner Clinical Foundation in New Orleans and the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, USA. His scientific training includes a Master's degree in Translational Research Sciences and a PhD in Cancer Cell Biology from the University of Texas. He also holds a Bachelor's degree in Religious Studies from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogotá, Colombia, and Master's degrees in Bioethics and Theology from the same university.
