Sobre este libro

A Princess of Mars (1912) is the first novel in Edgar Rice Burroughs's Barsoom series, introducing readers to John Carter, a Confederate veteran mysteriously transported from Earth to Mars, known to its inhabitants as Barsoom. Upon arrival, Carter discovers that the lower gravity grants him extraordinary strength and agility. He is captured by the green Martians, the Tharks—a brutal, warlike race—and earns their respect through his courage and fighting skill. Carter later encounters Dejah Thoris, the beautiful princess of Helium, a red Martian city-state representing the planet's more civilized side. They fall in love, but political rivalries and wars between Martian factions separate them repeatedly. Throughout his adventures, Carter strives to unite the warring peoples of Barsoom, demonstrating honor, bravery, and compassion. After many battles and trials, Carter saves Mars from ecological collapse by restoring its atmosphere, but he is suddenly returned to Earth before reuniting with Dejah Thoris. The novel ends with Carter longing to return to her. Blending adventure, romance, and science fiction, A Princess of Mars helped define early space opera and inspired later writers and filmmakers, including those of Star Wars and Avatar.
