Sobre este libro
Neurological diseases such as cerebral stroke, dementia, and Parkinson=s disease are the most frequent causes of swallowing disturbances. Neurogenic dysphagias are playing an increasingly important role in outpatient and in-patient care due to their often severe health sequelae and the increasing ageing of the population. In a practically oriented way, this established reference work discusses the neurophysiological basis, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of neurogenic dysphagias, reflecting the rapid developments in this field during the last 15 years. A special focus in the book is carrying out and reporting on the endoscopic evaluation of neurogenic dysphagias. Since 2015, the German Association for Neurology and the German Stroke Association have been offering a Flexible Endoscopic Examination of Swallowing (FEES) training curriculum for neurogenic dysphagias, and the German Association for Geriatric Medicine has also joined with the project. All of the content requirements for the FEES training curriculum are covered in this expanded and revised second edition of the book.
Example FEES videos for various patterns of disturbance can be downloaded as additional materials.
