"FOR SOME TIME NOW, THE INTERNATIONAL SITUATION HAD BEEN GOING FROM BAD TO WORSE, AND THEN IT WENT FROM WORSE TO EVEN WORSE AND WORSE STILL… THE ROOT CAUSE BEING, OF COURSE, THE STATES EQUATING PERCEIVED NATIONAL INTERESTS WITH THE WELL-BEING AND LIVES OF PEOPLE. NUCLEAR DETERRENCE WAS PUSHED TO THE LIMITS, AND NOW THOSE LIMITS WERE FRACTURING..." Following an all-out nuclear conflict, a small number of previously selected people are given shelter in an anti-nuclear bunker. None know how long they will remain there nor what the world will look like should they emerge one day to recreate human society. But each person down in the shelter is carrying their own ethical and cultural luggage. As the enforced "stay" proceeds, this luggage is put to the test, and so is the very notion of humanity.
