Sobre este libro

"The Trachiniae (also known as The Women of Trachis) by Sophocles is a tragic drama that centers on Deianeira, the devoted wife of the hero Heracles. Living in anxious uncertainty during her husband's long absence, Deianeira struggles with loneliness and fear for his safety. When Heracles finally returns, he brings with him Iole, a young woman captured in war, whom he intends to keep as a concubine. Faced with jealousy and humiliation, Deianeira fears she is losing her husband's love. Desperate to restore their bond, she recalls a charm given to her years earlier by the centaur Nessus, who claimed it would ensure Heracles' fidelity. Believing it to be a love potion, she anoints a garment for him with the substance. Unbeknownst to her, it is a deadly poison. When Heracles puts on the robe, he is consumed by excruciating agony. Realizing the catastrophic consequences of her action, Deianeira is overwhelmed by guilt and takes her own life. Heracles, mortally wounded, orders his son Hyllus to carry out his final wishes. The tragedy explores themes of love, jealousy, trust, and unintended destruction. Sophocles portrays the devastating consequences of human error and the fragile balance between devotion and despair."
