"It is not reassuring to be told that the things we now call myths were once realities." When strange, non-human bodies wash up during a historic Vermont flood, folklorist Albert Wilmarth dismisses the local legends of hill-dwelling monsters—but his sceptisism is shaken when he receives a message from a recluse named Henry Akeley, who claims the creatures are real and are menacing his isolated farmhouse. Lovecraft (1890-1937) is now regarded as one of the most influential 20th-century writers of supernatural horror fiction.
